Phillip Mason, MD

Phillip Mason, MD, MS is a clinical professor of Anesthesiology and Medical Director of the Cardiothoracic and Transplant ICU at UT Health San Antonio.

Dr. Mason completed his undergraduate training at Texas A&M University and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1999. He then completed a residency in emergency medicine at Carolinas Medical Center prior to entering active duty military service in the United States Air Force. Dr. Mason subsequently completed a fellowship in critical care medicine and a Master of Science in Clinical Research degree at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and a fellowship in extracorporeal life support at Houston Methodist Hospital. His twenty-year military career included twelve overseas deployments in emergency medicine, critical care air transport and special operations support roles. Dr. Mason completed his military career serving as the Adult ECMO Medical Director at Brooke Army Medical Center.
