Kanapa Kornsawad, MD

Associate Professor/Clinical

Dr. Kanapa Kornsawad is a published, board-certified Hospitalist who joined UT Health San Antonio as an Assistant Professor/Clinical at in September 2013 before rising to the rank of Associate Professor/Clinical. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Khon Kaen University in Khon Kaen, Thailand in 1996 before going on to earn her Doctor of Medicine from the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand in 2003. Dr. Kornsaward completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio in 2013.

Dr. Kornsawad has a strong interest in enhancing patient care and promoting professionalism and humanism in medicine. She has been involved with the Collaborative Care model at University Hospital with a focus on patient and family centeredness and is actively involved in both Undergraduate and Graduate Medical Education. She is currently a Director of the Intern Learning Group for the Internal Medicine Residency program and Co-Course Director for The Healer's Art course for medical students. In 2016, Dr. Kornsawad was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) as a Faculty Member and now serves as a faculty advisor for the local chapter. She has received numerous teaching awards from both medical students and residents including the 2017, 2019, and 2023 Division of Hospital Medicine "Educator of the Year Award", nominated by her peers as a star teacher, educator, and mentor for medical students and residents, "Mentor of the Year" (2017), and the "Bexar County Medical Scoiety Women Leadership Award" (2021).
