Gregory D. Bowling, MD

Dr. Gregory Bowling is a published, board-certified Hospitalist who joined UT Health San Antonio as an Assistant Professor/Clinical in July 2006 after having completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio in June 2006 (serving as Chief Resident from 2005 to 2006). He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX in 2002 and also holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology (graduating Summa Cum Laude) from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX which he earned in 1998.
Dr. Bowling served as the Section Chief of the Division of Hospital Medicine from 2012 to 2019 and served as the interim Division Chief from 2019 to 2021; during this time he rose to the rank of Associate Professor/Clinical (2013) and then Professor/Clinical (2024). He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including being listed among the "Best Doctors in San Antonio" (2017) by San Antonio Scene magazine, the "Presidential Award for Clinical Excellence" (2017), the "Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award" (2016), listed on Texas Monthly's "Texas Super Doctors Rising Stars 2015" list, "Internal Medicine Residency Key Educational Faculty Award" (2013-2014), "Teacher of the Year- Inpatient Faculty" (2013-2014), the Division of Hospital Medicine "Teaching Award" (2013-2014), "Clinical Teacher of the Year" (2012-2013), and many others., He was awarded the Division of Hospital Medicine "MD of the Year Award" (2023), nominated by Advanced Practice Providers for his work as a physician who exemplifies teamwork and collaboration on direct care teams.
Dr. Bowling is a member of several professional organizations including the Society of Hospital Medicine (he became a Fellow in Hospital Medicine with this organization in December 2015) and the American College of Physicians.
